What is emergency dentistry?

Prompt care that can save your tooth —and your peace of mind

A dental emergency is any issue involving the teeth, gums, or supporting tissues that requires immediate attention to prevent further pain, infection, or permanent damage. Dental emergencies can happen at any time —and often when you least expect them.

At Concierge Dental, we take emergencies seriously. Prompt urgent care can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Our experienced team treats a full range of dental injuries and emergencies in-office, without the long wait or high cost of an ER visit.

If you or your child are experiencing any pain, swelling, or bleeding, call us right away. A team member is standing by to help you get seen as quickly as possible.

ER vs. emergency dentist

Should I go to the emergency room?

In most cases, no — and here’s why that matters.

Call Concierge Dental first for:

  • Toothaches, fractures, or cracked teeth
  • Knocked-out or loosened teeth
  • Broken, lost, or damaged crowns or bridges
  • Lost fillings or exposed tooth structure
  • Dental abscesses (painful swelling)
  • Soft tissue cuts or injuries inside the mouth
  • Broken or uncomfortable dentures
  • Any dental pain you’re unsure about

Go to the ER or call 911 if you have:

  • !Uncontrollable bleeding from the mouth
  • !A broken or dislocated jaw
  • !Severe facial swelling affecting breathing or swallowing
  • !A high fever with dental swelling
  • !Pus or foul taste from a spreading infection
  • !Head or neck trauma
When in doubt, call us first. Hospital emergency rooms don’t have the specialized training or equipment to treat most dental emergencies — making for a costly, ineffective visit that ends with a prescription and a referral. Our team will assess your situation and either treat you in-office or direct you to the right care as quickly as possible.

03

04

Relief & follow-up

We treat the emergency in-office whenever possible. Before you leave, we’ll schedule any follow-up care needed to protect your long-term health.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about emergency dental care

Still have questions? Call us — we’re happy to help.

Yes. Concierge Dental specializes in same-day emergency care. We’re open 7 days a week, from 9am to 9pm. Call us as soon as you’re in pain and we’ll get you in as quickly as possible — often within the hour.
Yes. We welcome walk-in emergency patients at both our San Antonio and Frisco locations. Walk-ins are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. If possible, calling ahead helps us prepare for your arrival — but it’s never required.
Yes. We accept all major PPO dental insurance plans, as well as VA and military insurance. Our team will verify your benefits and go over any estimated out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins. Flexible financing is also available if needed.
Time is critical — ideally you should see a dentist within 30 minutes of the injury. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part), not the root. Gently rinse it with clean water without scrubbing. Place it back in the socket if you can, or keep it moist in milk or between your cheek and gum. Then call us immediately.
In most cases, no. Hospital ERs are not equipped to treat dental emergencies — they typically can only prescribe painkillers and antibiotics and refer you to a dentist anyway, at a much higher cost. Call Concierge Dental first. Go to the ER only if you have uncontrollable bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing due to swelling, a broken jaw, or other life-threatening symptoms.
Absolutely. We understand that dental emergencies are stressful, especially if you have dental anxiety. We offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and oral sedation options to help you relax and stay comfortable throughout your visit. Just let us know when you call.
